About

We’re touring the world through breakfast recipes in nearly alphabetical order. Once or twice a week, we make breakfast from a different country, inventing a recipe that we think will be a great breakfast while also being true to the country of origin. We adapt the recipes from other recipes online, using ingredients local to us and trying to keep the time required to cook the dishes to under 2 hours.

There are 195 countries in the world, which means this project will take a while! Everyone at my house eats the breakfast and gets to rate it. I average the kids’ and adults’ ratings and come up with a combined rating. Very often the kids will hate a dish while the adults love it.

About the project

My family is eating our way around the world, one breakfast at a time. I pick a country, find a breakfast people actually eat there, and cook it. Then everyone rates it on a scale of 1–5.

Some recipes turn into new favorites. Some we’ll never make again (sorry, saltfish). Every post has the full recipe, so you can try them at home.

Goals

  1. Delicious

The food has to taste good. I tweak recipes until I think they’ll be the best possible recipe I can create. Although authenticity is important, I want my kids and wife to eat it.

  2. Local ingredients

Everything comes from stores near me. If I can’t find something, I swap it. You’ll see the recipes reflect what I have on hand instead of ingredients specific to that region.

  3. About two hours of cooking

Breakfast shouldn’t take all day. Some recipes need prep the night before, but the cooking itself takes about two hours or less.

How we rate

Everyone at the table (we sometimes have guests) rates each breakfast out of 5, and the score is a weighted average between adult and kid ratings.

Hopefully you enjoy making these recipes as much as we did!
